Getting Organized Follow Up

505459356 79916612c4 Getting Organized Follow Up I have to pat myself on the back. My getting organized follow up is good news. I have a system down now, and I’m sticking to it. Photo by vsqz

Writing things down if just on a computer program is very motivating for me. I’ve also taken to heart the advice that I found in getting more productive. After breakfast, I get my morning walk in. It energizes me. Being energized on a Monday morning is a good thing.

It’s a good thing too to see one’s own accomplishments. Ticking off each of those tasks, however minor, is a victory in itself. It creates momentum in a positive direction.

So, I’ve increased my activity twofold. I got three workouts in last week. I was hoping to get a fourth in, but three certainly is an accomplishment too. Of course, hoping for the real reward—seeing the results of my efforts.

Trouble Sleeping? Try SoundSleeping

2621067331 b1abc52d8d thumb Trouble Sleeping? Try SoundSleeping I haven’t really been one to have trouble sleeping—that is unless my husband is snoring. I will admit though to always having some white noise playing at night.

Without white noise, I cannot sleep. It has a meditative effect, lulling me into a pleasant, peaceful state. It’s usually a fan or the air conditioner. Lately, though, I’ve been listening to a website that does just that. It’s called appropriately enough, SoundSleeping.

You chose your mix of sounds. For concentrating while I’m at the computer, I may have an ocean soundscape, complete with gulls. The drumming music is especially soothing. I’ve nearly caught myself falling asleep at my desk.

Certainly, if the sandman eludes you, give this site a try.

Getting Organized

367822192 9d3b135289 thumb Getting Organized It’s hard getting organized, especially when your goals are varied and diverse. I’ve been trying out several GTD (get things done) systems to help me in my own quest.

Pen and paper is well enough, but since I wanted something clean—that old clean slate feeling—I’ve opted for something computer. I looked at both software and web interfaces. I can actually say now that I am a bit more organized.

Remember the Milk is a free web-based service with optional paid upgrade. It’s simple, to the point. I like lists. RTM is all about lists. You can create as many as you like with options for due dates, tags, and notes. I like the daily reminders and the weekly planner. You can tweet yourself, email yourself or others, or have a tool on your desktop to add tasks. No excuses for it not making the list. Besides, the logo is cute.

I also wanted a calendar. RTM can export my tasks, so I have synchronization between the two. The calendar part was a bit different. I had trouble locating one that serves my needs. I wanted a clean interface, simple. I don’t want to have to read a manual to figure it out. I like color-coding my categories. It’s a nice visual for seeing how I plan my day.

My choice was Mozilla Thunderbird with the Lightning extension. I open my email and there it is. I go to my tasks and there they are. I have my color-coding for my calendar.

I have to say that since using there two interfaces, I’ve made vast improvements on my organization. It motivates me to get it done.
