Last Minute Shopping


As the holiday season comes to its crescendo, it is important for these last days leading up to Christmas to maximize your time. Anything you can do to save time and effort is so valuable now. It can reduce stress during the one time when added stress is more than unwanted. One way that I use is online services for buying Christmas gifts.

I prefer shopping online. I make my living off the Internet, so certainly, I should support it. There is no excuse for not buying online. The prices are competitive. There is free shipping. You do not have to wait in line. You do not have to fight the crowds. If you are concerned about security, there are systems in place to protect you from temporary credit cards to banks that are more attuned to potential fradulent sales.

A couple of bits of advice when buying online. There are the obvious online cautions. That is a topic of itself. I could write a book about phishing scams and keylogger malware. Rather, I would like to address the practical issues of receiving your merchandise.

Our house is located well off the road. This is one time where a lawn marker really comes in handy to lead delivery guys to our house. The guys are pulling extra shifts. Give them a break.

All of this leads me to another point. Make it easy for the delivery guys to find you. They operate on a tight schedule, especially during the holidays. It’s not a scavenger hunt. Make sure your address is displayed prominently and clearly, perhaps with an address plaque.

Make sure and keep the sidewalk shoveled. It is all about making it easy for you to receive your deliveries. Besides, you have probably noticed that the UPS and FedEx guys are working late into the evening. Give them a break. It is hard enough pulling these long hours without having to fight the elements to get the job done. Address plagues, by the way, make great gifts. It is the kind of gift one might not buy for oneself.
