Study says restaurant kids’ meals loaded with fat, salt and calories, and not just a bit, but a lot. Check out these stats. The Center for Science in the Public Interest report found that a staggering 93 percent of the 1,474 kid meal offerings at 13 different restaurant chains were over the recommended one-third of daily calories for children 4-8 years old. And is it a pun or a slam that the Burger King "Big Kids" meal is half the normal daily calorie intake for kids?
This study is truly shocking in the light of the increasing obesity rate and its accompanying complications like diabetes. Kids of today don’t stand a chance. It’s hard to make a conscious choice to give up a high fat diet. I know. On the flip side, I can understand and appreciate a parent’s dilemma. Time is precious in today’s world. Cooking healthy meals can be time-consuming, so the choice of a quick meal to get on with the day is attractive. However, rather than enabling children, why don’t we empower them? Teach them to make good choices. Their lives depend upon it.
