Take a Stroll to Ease Stress

There is a wonderful ring to the word, saunter. It implies a leisurely walk with no destination in mind, a time to let go of stress and just take a stroll. Welcome to World Sauntering Day!

How refreshing to know that such a day even exists! Here is a holiday to remember ourselves to slow down. Forget the deadlines. Forget the rushing. Now is the time for a pleasant walk, taking in the sights.

While I do bike, I prefer to walk for my cardio activity. Anything other than walking is too fast for my tastes. I’ll miss the spring wildflowers just coming up or the deer standing still while we pass. I may even miss the $20 bill someone lost while running down this same path.

This is the kind of holiday that I will make it a point to remember and celebrate. Anyone up for a stroll in the park?

Hit the Bike Trail

bike thumb Hit the Bike Trail This week is the perfect time to hit the bike trail. Welcome to National Bike Month!

I have to admit that I walk more than I bike. It’s the nature lover in me. During the spring, my eyes are fixed on the ground as I look for new spring wildflowers—and morels this time of year.

Biking, however, has its place. The wind blowing through my hair is refreshing. I like the feeling of pushing myself by biking miles. It’s a great workout for your quads that is non-weight bearing. It burns almost 300 calories an hour for a 160-pound person. It has a lot going for it.

I equate biking with running. It gives you an endorphin rush that is hard to resist. It challenges you. It can be a tough workout. For me, it is a nice change of pace cardio. With more and more trails being developed, there is no excuse not to celebrate and hit the bike trail.

Car in the Shop? Not a Bad Thing

shoes Car in the Shop? Not a Bad ThingMy car is in need of repair–again. Some would say I should sell it. I can’t. It belonged to my mother, now gone. It is a link to her. So, after many band-aid repairs, it is in need of yet another.

The shop I like to use is busy, so busy that I can’t get in for another week. Since I’m reluctant to drive it, I walk. I walked to town to get some coffee. Today, I walked to town to go shopping. Tomorrow, i will walk to work. Each day, it’s at least an hour’s walk. That’s a good thing. While I may not have chosen this path, I’m getting my cardio in. And that is a good thing.
