Motivational Tip — Keeping Up the Pace

b Door County 010 Motivational Tip Keeping Up the PaceA great thing happened last week–we were on a much-needed vacation. Door County, Wisconsin was our destination. It’s a quiet, idyllic place that until this year, had poor cell coverage. That’s something of a blessing if you truly want to get away.

During our vacation, we walked and biked a great deal. The park we camped at had plenty of trails. We took the time to do a lot of geocaching and hiking. Some of the hikes were challenging. I don’t mind saying that I traveled outside of my comfort zone more than once. My husband is an excellent coach.

How much walking? Just about every single day during our 10-day stay, we logged 10,000+ steps. Many days were over 13,000 steps. There was even an exhausting 18,000-step day. We both felt great. I may even have lost a pound or two. With such momentum behind us, our goal now is to keep it up. Our bodies are accustomed to the pace. It’s only a matter of taking those steps.

That’s the great thing about a vacation. You forget the doubts holding you back. Perhaps you take some chances like I did, doing a bit of rock climbing. If you can build the foundation, run with it. Keep up the pace.

This Geocaching Can Be Addicting

It turned out not to be a good boating day yesterday with the threat of severe storms and wind. Since we did have a window of sun, we decided to go geocaching. We set out to find our first geocache. I had found a few not too far from us. So, after loading the waypoints onto my GPS and uploading the description info on my Visor, we headed out.

The first one was in a park we knew, but never really explored. We found the area to begin right away. The first thing we noticed was that the mosquitoes, the state “bird” of Minnesota, were out in force. Definitely something I don’t miss about summer. We followed the unimproved trail, with me reading the coordinates and my husband doing the searching. After going by the area twice, we finallly spotted the green ammo box. The idea is to take something from the cache and leave something in return. There were some stickers and kid stuff there, but we ended up taking a new bungee cord that we could use for the boat and leaving one of my Weborg Lodge Studio cards for our contribution to the store.

We were addicted. The weather still seemed to be holding out, so we set out for the next one. This one was again located in a park, one we’ve passed many times but never explored. In fact, the description of the geocache gave us the history we didn’t know. We parked and headed into the park. This time I relied on my GPS’s GoTo feature to point me in the direction of the cache. Once we were close, I then relied on reading the coordinates. This was much quicker. We found this geocache in five minutes. The cache unfortunately, didn’t have a lot in it. We took a quarter and left another card.

Had it not started raining, we would have headed out for another. What a great way it was to get out and walk and see some new places! I’ve already downloaded several geocaches for the where we’re vacationing so we find some there. Though it’s threatening storms again, we’ll probably get out to find one or two today.

Whoa! Take It Easy With the Exercising

So, I’ve been doing these workouts for just a few days. Wow, I’m working muscles I never knew existed. Now don’t get me wrong; I’ve been lifting and working out regularly for the last year plus. What I haven’t been doing are exercises that target several muscles, in other words, not insulation exercises.

The benefit comes from being more efficient in one’s workouts and working more muscles. And boy, am I feeling them! I’m glad though–despite the pain. At least I know there’s room for improvement.
