Putting Passion In Your Workouts

compass Putting Passion In Your WorkoutsOne way to increase your workout frequency is find a way to put passion in your workouts. Last weekend, as we often do, my husband and I went geocaching. Geocaching is a high tech treasure hunt, finding treasures or caches with the use of a GPS unit and provided coordinates.

We selected a destination to begin. Then using my Geocache Navigator on my Blackberry, we scouted out for the nearest geocaches. We found six that day–and walked nearly five miles. We were so determined to find the last caches that we just kept walking and walking. It was fun too. At one point, my husband, the consumate adventurer, decided we should cross the prairie a half mile to cut out part of the longer trail route.

The landscape was rolling and the grass thick. The trek was a challenge. Undoubtedly, we burned more calories than had we just taken a leisurely stroll. We didn’t stop to think how difficult it would be. We just did it. It was a good kind of tired afterwards. I enjoyed the shared experience with my husband.

Take note then. To stay motivated with your workouts, discover your passion. Hopefully, you can find a shared interest with someone close too. Photo by liewcf

Trail Blazing For a Cardio Workout

2613361149 15a83d3e8b Trail Blazing For a Cardio WorkoutCardio is definitely easier if you have a partner to motivate you.  My husband and I combine our geocaching and our walking to get that cardio workout in.

This past weekend we were out in the field again.  My love of walking off trail gets us off trail.  My husband’s search for the “easy” way takes us off trail.  And that’s where we were this weekend, searching for a couple elusive geocaches.

For those not familiar with geocaching, it is a high tech treasure hunt, using posted coordinates and a GPS unit.  The fun is in the find.  The find can just be the act of signing a log.  It can be the exchange of small trinkets.  For me, it’s the discovery of new parks and places that I would never have found before.

Our Saturday adventure took us to three geocaches, walking three miles, over the course of two hours.  My husband’s read of the topo map took us to areas only known to deer and escaped convicts, the real woods.

Hikers know this, but trying to negotiate hills and obstacles of all sorts makes it a more intense workout.  Well developed core muscles help with balance.  Add to the mix a light dusting of snow over frozen ground and you have a killer workout.

Despite the fact that my quads objected to the trek, at least we got out–both of us–and enjoyed a good walk.  What activities do you and your significant other share in?

Back On Track

This is nice. For the third week in a row, I’ve lost weight. I’m thrilled to say the least. I fell off the wagon last December. The temperature nose-dived to below zero. Car problems kept me home. It became difficult to get my cardio in, especially when my cardio of choice is walking.

The weather has warmed up a bit now and I’m ready to take to the trails again. We’ll be ready to go geocaching again now that the threat of hypothermia has been eliminated. It’s 28 degrees today. Perfect weather for a winter walk.
