Exhausted!

Yesterday was another marathon day in the remodeling adventure. This time it was painting–painting the last two rooms of the house. Before this, I never realized how truly taxing painting is. The motion doesn’t seem very difficult, yet I suppose after four hours of anything you’d begin to feel it. It was that and the time washing the walls, moving furniture, vacuuming, and all the other fun stuff that goes with re-doing a room. Having said that though, the rooms look fabulous.

Today is my regular workout day, but I tell you, I am just exhausted. Physically, I’m drained. All I want to do is sit around. I thought about working on my website, but even the mental challenge is more than I want to bear. I am more spent now than I’ve been anytime I’ve worked out. So, no, I’m not going to feel the least bit guilty about missing this workout.

Remodeling–Part 2

We’re still in the process of remodeling. Things are coming together and we’re starting to see the fruits of our labor. Again, the work has pushed me to the point of exhaustion, and my regular exercise routine has just not happened. Yesterday it was painting.

I decided to paint the kitchen ceiling. After cleaning it, I applied a coat of Kilz to seal it and prepare it for the final coat. It took me just over two hours to finish that. I stopped for lunch and then painted the ceiling its beautiful ultra white. The painting went much quicker. I did have a helper though.

Sophie

Sophie decided to snooze at her usual place by the window–right where I had to paint. Well, I painted around her until she moved on to another roost. The price for my efforts:

Exercising and Remodeling

So far this week, I’ve exercise precious little, and I’ve exercise to the point of exhaustion. How? Remodeling. For various reasons, we put off the painting and the re-tiling. You know how it is. Then we hit and hit it hard. We started simultaneously with the bathroom and the kitchen.

Forty plus year old wallpaper adorned the walls that had seen their time. Forty years means no easy pull off vinyl wallpaper. No, this was a matter of scraping and scraping and scraping some more. The first night, my husband had to ask me to stop despite the fact I was determined to finish the kitchen.

After removing the wallpaper, it was time to paint. Being the artistic one in the family, the painting was left to me. I tried my hand at rag rolling, not too dissimilar from watercolor techniques. I started with the bathroom. One thing to bear in mind with doing such work is that the dried product looks different. At first, I was disappointed, then elated. The kitchen also turned out splendidly. As if that wasn’t enough work, then I started on the storage closet. It was like moving. Brutal. I have a huge load for the trash and the recycling.

So what did my efforts earn me? Estimates, of course, but as I can near figure it, here goes:

  • Painting–2 hours–422 calories
  • Wallpaper–6 hours–1,266 calories
  • Cleaning storage area–4 hours–844 calories

Now if that doesn’t count as exercise, I just don’t know what does!
