Almost There To My First 5k

Well, four more days. Four more days until my first 5k. The weather is looking promising still. I’m feeling strong. I’m sure the adreline rush will help fuel my run as well. I’m going to get another run in before Saturday, but I’ll probably set Thursday and Friday aside as rest days in preparation.

I’m getting to the six-week point on the AbsDiet. I’m actually lifting more weight than I ever thought I would. I dropped the online program. While the exercise portion was good, the moderators weren’t very responsive to questions. The diet entry was clunky. I’m sticking with the program though, using the books as guides. In any case, I will be switching my exercise program. Now that I have a guideline for what to do, I’m going to enjoy mixing things up a bit.

Diet wise I’m noticing that I’m eating less at meals. I don’t feel starving, ready for meals. I’m drinking my daily smoothie as the diet recommends. Those are quite tasty and easy to prepare. My cat, Sophie, enjoys them as well. Just a little bit though.

It’s Happening–My First 5k

What a great run I had today! I’m at the fifth week of the Couch to 5k program. After warming up, I ran five minutes, walked three minutes, ran eight minutes, walked three minutes, and then ran five minutes. Eight minutes straight is the longest stretch I’ve run. I felt great! I even felt like I could keep running.

I did a few things different. I ran just a tad slower. I walked a tad slower too. I think that I was pushing it a bit. I’ll at least have one hopeful two more runs to get in before the big day on Saturday. The extended weather forecast is looking good. Should be about the perfect temperature. We both excited about doing this. What a wonderful thing it is to challenge oneself and succeed! Next thing I need to do is translate this into other areas of my life.

How’s this for optimism? I’ve already found our next run.

Cool Running–Week 2

We went to the gym yesterday to do our workout. We joined Snap Fitness back in January when we switched insurance companies. With our new provider, most of our fee is covered. The guy at the gym didn’t have to pitch it anymore after he told us our cost after the insurance reimbursement.

I’ve been following the CoolRunning program for my workouts. This week I am running for 90 seconds and walking for 2 minutes. I felt good after yesterday’s run, despite the fact that I really taxed my legs on Sunday with the Abs Diet strength workout with leg emphasis. The diet portion of the program has been going well. I do feel a difference. Maybe it’s all those carbs or maybe it’s the smoothies.

Speaking of the gym, I have to grouse a bit. One of the trainers was at the gym, in street clothes, on a treadmill. A couple of her friends came in, sitting all over the next treadmill so no one could use it. Come on: a little common courtesy please. When she was done, did she clean the machine? No. I hate that. Another one of the regulars was there. Don’t get me wrong. I love to see people working out, being active. It shows that they care about themselves. But please though, no grunting. I mean this woman really grunts. It sounds like she’s having sex. I really dread it when I see her jump on the treadmill or the elliptical. She wears a MP3 player, so she probably doesn’t realize how annoying she is. Oh, well, I can make it a point to avoid that time if it really bugs me that much. These little gripes though made this post on gym etiquette so funny to me.
