Weekly Goal–Plan That Vacation

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day about her vacation plans. She’s off to Las Vegas tomorrow to have fun, hit the casinos, and maybe a few Vegas shows. She was so excited.

It got me thinking, though I’ve never been to Las Vegas, what would I do? I’ve never gambled, but I suppose being in the place that made slot machine a household word, one would have to give it a go. I’d probably opt for smaller casino. First, I’d people watch. Living in small town Minnesota, one misses out on what the other half does. Since I’ve been writing, my sense of observation has grown more acute. With so many people, from so many different parts of the country–and the world–there would be so many stories to observe. So, yes, definitely some people watching.

Of course, one has to make the obligatory visits to the Mirage and other attractions. I expect the sensory overload would be tremendous. Still, it’ll make for some good pictures and a nice opportunity to enjoy a cocktail in a place with so much money. I’d have to visit the Fremont Street Experience to get the true feel of the place.

The outdoors and the desert intrigues me. Though Las Vegas is the archetypal oasis, I’d want to explore the surrounding area. The Las Vegas Springs Preserve would be on my list. I’d also certainly want to see the Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs. An opportunity to hike in truly wild lands would be a fantastic opportunity for me. It would certainly be a contrast to the Strip. Certainly, this would be a chance to see a true oasis in the Mojave Desert.

My background is in the outdoors. I’d be drawn to the unique features of this wild landscape such as the Joshua tree. Of course, I’d be planning this visit in the fall rather than the blistering hot summer. I’d want a chance to experience the wide open spaces of this environment. No visit would be complete without a visit to a ghost town. Being here would help me understand the true harshness of this challenging environment. It’d be a memory that I’d take home with me and cherish.

So, with all this daydreaming, I come away with my goal this week:

Weekly Goal — Indulge Once In Awhile

Following the road to wellness can be tough some days. Perhaps you walk it alone because your spouse chooses a another path. Once in awhile though, you need to give yourself permission to indulge. Maybe you’re feeling off today. It’s okay to do nothing every now and then. Then, there’s your diet.

Of course, eating well is your goal, but eating is such a pleasurable experience. Once in awhile, maybe you do feel like a plate of lasagne or a piece of double chocolate cheesecake. Well, today, you have a reason to indulge. Today is National Eat What You Want Day.

Weekly Goal: Indulge once in awhile (on this day, of course)

Weekly Goal — Get Outside

This past winter in Minnesota was tough. Rather than the usual two heavy late season snowstorms, we had snow all winter long. It seemed every snow was followed by sub-zero temperatures and wind. Needless to say, cardio outside took a back seat with me.

Now, those wonderful spring days are here. No excuses not to get outside and enjoy the warm weather. It’s time to enjoy watching everything green up, time to listen to the birds singing. We’ve waited too long for this.

Weekly Goal: Get outside!
