Weekly Goal — Connect With Mind-Body Fitness

Mind-body fitness is the power of using your mind to create focus and control over your body. It is an enriching form of exercise, bringing a greater understanding of your body.

Bringing together your mind and body in your exercising has great benefits. Your focus is like meditation. It relaxes you and reduces stress. Pilates is one form of this fitness concept. Pilates emphasizes gentle, precise movements with an aim to strengthen the core. Your core is your foundation.

Yoga, on the other hand, uses a different focus. Yoga also combines a mental and physical disciplines to achieve higher states of consciousness. While the poses can be measured and controlled, yoga still offers physical challenges.

Both practices emphasize proper breathing to relax and achieve focus. The breathing techniques are opposite where yoga encourages breathing in and out through the nose. With Pilates, one breathes in through the nose and out through the mouth.

Weekly Goal — Take My Vitamins

As much as I try, there are just some days when I don’t get outside for my vitamin D. I don’t get enough vegetables. I forget about the oranges or strawberries in the fridge. Times like this remind me that taking a daily multi-vitamin is a good way to ensure that you’re getting all you need in terms of nutrition.

Vitamins are not a replacement for a healthy diet. Rather vitamins help keep your body on an even keel. Your body doesn’t have the time to develop deficiencies. You are less vulnerable during times of stress.

Weekly Goal: Take my vitamins.

Weekly Goal — Know Thy Blood Pressure

We know it as the “silent killer.” Unchecked high blood pressure kills thousands of people each year from strokes, heart attacks, and heart disease. Without outward symptoms, many don’t realize their risk. The only way to know is to check. You owe it to yourself, your family, and your loved ones.

Checking and tracking your blood pressure at home is a good way to give you a true picture of your risk. At the doctor’s office when you’re tense and anxious over a visit may not give you an accurate overall view. If your family has a history of it, it is wise for you to keep track. Taking your blood pressure at home is easy. Keep a record of your results. It could save your life.

Weekly Goal: Know and track my blood pressure.
