Taking Care of You—National High Blood Pressure Month

This month features an opportunity to do something for you. High blood pressure, the so-called “silent killer”, affects more than 74 million Americans. Welcome to National High Blood Pressure Month!

Having been diagnosed with HBP myself, my awareness, of course, is more acute. I am on medication to control my high blood pressure. I attribute my own condition to my weight and my family history. With both parents having had the condition, the die was pretty much cast.

No matter what your medication protocol, exercise will certainly complement your treatment. Even losing just a few pounds will lessen the load on your heart. Anything that you can do is beneficial.

The important thing is to act. Don’t let high blood pressure direct your lift. Find ways to cope. Eat better. Exercise more. Lose weight. You don’t have to be one of the statistics.
