Treating High Blood Pressure

I went for my follow up visit after being diagnosed with high blood pressure. My BP was down, but not enough according to my doctor. So, she put me on a diuretic.

Now this may sound weird, but I was not at all upset about it. If fact, I welcomed it. A little weight loss from taking this med will be most welcome.

I started doing some research on the meds I’m taking. My husband and I are both on Lisinopril. I am also on Hydrochlorothiazide. My husband also takes a beta blocker, but his situation is different.

I would advise anyone to research what they’re taking. I rely only on reputable sites such as WholeHealthMD.com for my information. From reading this site, I learned that taking a magnesium supplement is probably a good idea when taking a diuretic.

Fortunately, I already do. Believe me, if you’ve had issues with migraines, take magnesium. It took several weeks, but I haven’t had a migraine in years. Magnesium also supports your heart.

I can’t say that I’m thrilled about being on meds, but I am grateful there is a solution. I haven’t encountered any side effects either. I know my husband gets colder quicker than I do, sparking the thermostat wars in the winter. That is caused by the beta blocker.

If something good has come out of this, we are walking regularly. We’re back out on the trails and geocaching too when we can. For me, our good health is all the motivation I need.
