It’s that time of year again. However you celebrate it, it’s time to show the one love that he or she means a lot to you. You might go out for dinner. Perhaps you go away or do something else special. For us, I prepare a special dinner.
In years past, I made lobster with a champagne-dill sauce. This year, I’m breaking with tradition and doing something different. Italian fits the bill.
There’s a wonderful saying about Italian food by British writer, George Miller. “The trouble with eating Italian food is that 5 or 6 days later you’re hungry again.” I think that says a lot about the comfort food aspect about this cuisine. It is food meant to be enjoyed and savored.
My thought is to make something truly special, with champagne and candles, of course. Italian cuisine has some classic dishes, some of which I have never made or never thought to. This menu from the appropriately named blog, Italian Food Forever.
I like the progression from antipasto to pasta to main course. How wonderful to plan a meal for lingering! That has my idea of a romantic meal. The menu has given me an idea-for another day. Instead I have tapped the site for another traditional dish, Osso Buco.
I still remember a dish I had several years ago, a testament to the chef. It was the first time I had it. I can still savor it to this day. That is the kind of meal I want to make this Valentine Day. Osso Buco it is then, with risotto and a fine wine.
